Unlike many of the other entries in the popular crossover SUV market, the Santa Fe doesn’t go too big or too small. It possesses the right size to handle six or seven riders or quickly switch to a full load of freight. With seven colors to choose from including iron frost and java espresso, it also has the power to pull its own weight and then some.

Performance

A 3.3 liter V6 engine tethered to a six-speed shiftable automatic transmission is at the heart of both the SE and Limited editions of the Santa Fe. The transmission also allows for a number of predetermined shift patterns. With 290 horsepower, a respectable 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway* are the results. When FWD, the standard mode on both versions, is replaced with the AWD alternative, highway mileage is reduced by a trivial one mpg while city mileage remains untouched.

Interior

Up to seven people can journey in comfort in three rows of seats. Both first and second row seats supply nearly identical clearance with just under 40 inches of headroom and just over 41 inches of legroom. If the normal 13.5 cubic feet of storage capacity is insufficient, second and third row seats fold away to present a voluminous 80 cubic feet. Even greater versatility is possible thanks to a 50/50 split in the third row and a 40/20/40 split in the second row. If this isn’t enough, the Santa Fe can tow up to a 5,000 pound trailer behind it. The Limited edition trades the second row bench for a pair of captain’s seats. The SE model provides beige, gray, or black cloth upholstery that’s upgradable to leather that’s stock on the Limited model. Adding to seating comfort is an air conditioning system that includes second and third bench ventilation.

Features

Digital comfort for passengers is supplied through an AM/FM/CD/HD Radio/MP3 system connected to six speakers. In the SE model, this arrangement can be boosted to a Dimension premium system utilizing ten speakers while the Limited edition has the option of a 550 watt Infinity Logic 7 system using 12 speakers. Both models offer a 4.3 inch touchscreen that doubles as a monitor for the backup camera. For even easier access, you can move up to an 8-inch screen.

Safety

The 2016 Santa Fe received high scores in nearly all test categories from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. All versions come with anti-lock brakes, traction and electronic stability control, hill start assist control, downhill braking control, tire pressure monitoring, and a rearview camera. There’s also a set of airbags including front passenger, driver’s knees, front side, and full side curtain bags. If help is required, Blue Link puts you in touch with it. Additional safety is supplied by a rear parking sensor, blind spot alert, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane changing assist standard on the Limited edition while the SE model provides them by special order.

The list of enjoyable features in the Santa Fe doesn’t end here. The crossover is designed to strike a balance between power, luxury, and roominess. To get a better grasp of all its assets, schedule a test today at your local Crown Hyundai dealership.
